{"id":2232,"date":"2015-11-12T15:36:43","date_gmt":"2015-11-12T20:36:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/sensoryecology\/?p=2232"},"modified":"2016-02-02T16:40:47","modified_gmt":"2016-02-02T21:40:47","slug":"gall-lab-publish-in-zoology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/sensoryecology\/gall-lab-publish-in-zoology\/","title":{"rendered":"Gall Lab Publish in Zoology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Gall Lab has just published a paper entitled \u201cFrequency sensitivity in the auditory periphery of male and female black-capped chickadees (<em>Poecile atricapillus<\/em>)\u201d. \u00a0The first author is one of the first student members of the Gall Lab, Arick Wong.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/sensoryecology\/files\/2015\/11\/arick.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2233\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/sensoryecology\/files\/2015\/11\/arick-232x300.png\" alt=\"arick\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/sensoryecology\/files\/2015\/11\/arick-232x300.png 232w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/sensoryecology\/files\/2015\/11\/arick.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In this paper we investigated the what frequencies of sound the black-capped chickadee is able to detect. \u00a0We found that they were very similar to the Carolina Chickadee, although their range of hearing appears to be a bit more narrow. \u00a0We suspect that a combination of both the call and song structure may be important in determining the frequency sensitivity of species in the chickadee family.<\/p>\n<p>You can access the paper <a href=\"http:\/\/authors.elsevier.com\/a\/1S0NH3MhxMGFdo\">here<\/a> for free through December 30th.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wong, A. and Gall, M.D. 2015.\u00a0Frequency sensitivity in the auditory periphery of male and female black-capped chickadees (<em>Poecile atricapillus<\/em>).
