St. John The Baptist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not after 1524?<\/p>\n<p>Painting, Don Antonio de\u2019Medici Collection, Florence.<\/p>\n<p>Franklin, 1994, 278, n. 88, published the following document mentioning a picture of \u201cSan Giovanni\u201d by Rosso in the inventory of Don Antonio de\u2019Medici\u2019s possessions in the gallery of the Palazzo del Casino of 14 March 1587 (modern 1588):<\/p>\n<p>ASF, Guardaroba Medicea, vol. 136, fol. 157r: \u201cUno quadro di uno San Giovanni in tavola dissono di mano del Rosso, braccio 1 alto, ornamento di noce intagliato, largo braccio 3\/4.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Franklin pointed out, the recorded dimensions of the painting are somewhat larger than those of the painting of the same subject in a private collection (<a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/rosso\/catalogues\/paintings\/p-11\/\">P.11<\/a>).\u00a0 The use of the phrase \u201cdissono di mano del Rosso\u201d suggests uncertainty about the authorship of the picture on the part of the person who made the inventory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not after 1524?
