RS, vol. 705, <i>Entrata e Uscita del Camarling, segnato D<\/i>, 1512-1516, fol. 104<sup>r<\/sup>:<\/p>\n<p>[238] \u201cA straordinario a d\u00ec decto [10 Settembre 1513] lire otto e soldi 9, sono per pi\u00f9 spesse fate per la\u2019magine di Giuliano a per mandare certi incontra a\u2019pelegrini come apare per poliza posta in filza, port\u00f2 Giovanni Batista dipintore, e resto e resti [<i>sic<\/i>] di Giovanni Batista ala porta &#8212; lire 8 soldi 9\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As in the document of payment for the <i>Coats-of-Arms of Pope Leo X and Giuliano de\u2019Medici <\/i>(<a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/rosso\/catalogues\/lost-works\/l-5\/\">L.5<\/a>) the \u201cdipintore\u201d is named only \u201cGiovanni Batista\u201d without any mention of Rosso (payment to a \u201cGiovanni Batista ala porta\u201d is also recorded in this document, whom Franklin thought was not an artist).\u00a0 Documents also published by Franklin record that payments to Baccio da Montelupo for the wax effigy were made in 1513.<\/p>\n<p>Franklin was tempted to suppose that Rosso painted the wax effigy, which must have been life-size.\u00a0 It would have been placed in the atrium of the church, and would have been destroyed for political reasons in May 1527.<\/p>\n<p>It is, of course, not certain that Rosso is the artist mentioned here.\u00a0 But it is possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1513 SS.
