Maria dell\u2019Anima, Rome, and his <em>Virgin and Child<\/em> in Baltimore.<\/p>\n<p>Carroll, 1995, 303, as not after Rosso, but rather more like Giulio Romano.<\/p>\n<p>B\u00e9guin, 1995, 193, may be referring to the background of this print with reference to the background of Primaticcio\u2019s <em>Scene of Fire<\/em> in Ensba, Paris (Brugerolles and Guillet, 1994, 46-49, no. 17, Fig.).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The figures in this scene have a thickness of proportion, and Hercules a brutish appearance, that are not identifiable with Rosso\u2019s more graceful art.\u00a0 One might expect in such an image some relation to Rosso\u2019s ornamental and witty <em>Hercules<\/em> episodes engraved by Caraglio in Rome (<a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/rosso\/files\/2012\/04\/E.24-Caraglio-Cacus-London.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Fig.E.24<\/a>), or some correspondences with a few of the frescoes in the Gallery of Francis I, such as the <em>Combat of Centaurs and Lapiths<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/rosso\/files\/2011\/06\/P.22-I-S-a-Combat-bw.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Fig.P.22, I S a<\/a>) or the <em>Scene of Sacrifice<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/rosso\/files\/2011\/06\/P.22-VII-N-a-Sacrifice.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Fig.P.22, VII N a<\/a>), but there are none.\u00a0 I have thought of a possible association with Bandinelli or, more likely, Salviati, but also with Giulio Romano, to whom the background can be related.\u00a0 That background architecture is also related to that in the background of Primaticcio\u2019s <em>Holy Family<\/em> in the Hermitage, but in reverse, which could have been gotten from the artist\u2019s association with Giulio.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Etching by Antonio Fantuzzi, 27.6 x 21.9 L (London).
