This print is related to, but in reverse of, a lost drawing by Rosso known from copies in Weimar (Fig.D.58A<\/a>) and Montpellier (Fig.D.58B<\/a>), which may have been intended for the space in the Gallery of Francis I where the Death of Adonis<\/em> was actually painted.\u00a0 As suggested in the catalogue entry of the gallery (P.22, III S<\/a>), Fantuzzi could have worked from that lost drawing but the puffs of smoke around the edges of these copies that are not in the print indicate that he may have had as his model a slightly later drawing by Rosso.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
