{"id":2369,"date":"2011-12-01T14:03:25","date_gmt":"2011-12-01T18:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.vassar.edu\/rosso\/"},"modified":"2015-08-06T13:22:24","modified_gmt":"2015-08-06T17:22:24","slug":"p-22-documents-summary","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/rosso\/catalogues\/paintings\/p-22\/p-22-documents-summary\/","title":{"rendered":"P.22 Documents &amp; Summary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following information and commentary on the gallery are primarily about the material aspects of the gallery.\u00a0 The documents are given in three parts as related to the construction of the gallery, the decoration of it, and the execution of its woodwork.\u00a0 Within this division the documents are presented chronologically according to the dates of the documents although in certain cases the substance of the documents provides earlier dates of greater significance for an understanding of the chronology of the gallery.\u00a0 Only documents that specifically refer to the gallery are transcribed here.\u00a0 The majority of the documents are from <em>Les Comptes des B\u00e2timents du Roi<\/em> (Paris, Biblioth\u00e8que nationale, ms. fr. 11.179), a compilation of sixteenth century sources made in or around the 1660s,<a href=\"#endref1\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a> and the <em>D\u00e9penses secr\u00e8tes de Fran\u00e7ois I<\/em><sup>er<\/sup> (Paris, Archives nationales), both published by Laborde, I, 1877, and II, 1880.\u00a0 The documents have all been checked except those documents and passages placed in brackets.<a href=\"#endref2\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a name=\"endref1\"><\/a><sup>1<\/sup>On the history of this manuscript, which is a resum\u00e9 and a collection of extracts of lost original sixteenth century records with annotations by Jean-Fran\u00e7ois F\u00e9libien des Avaux (d.1733), see Paul Vanaise, \u201cLes Comptes des Batiments du Roi de 1528 \u00e0 1571.
