This drawing has always been recognized as Rosso\u2019s and since 1898 has always been published as a study for the figure of St. Sebastian in the Dei Altarpiece that is dated 1522 (Fig.P.12a<\/a>; Fig.P.12g<\/a>).\u00a0 Unlike the saint in the picture, the figure in the drawing is bald and completely nude, details clearly indicating that it was not copied from the altarpiece.\u00a0 The extraordinarily refined draughtsmanship of the drawing and the variations of its contours also clearly indicate that it is not a copy of a lost drawing.\u00a0 In all respects the drawing reveals specifically the same sensibility that is recognizable as Rosso\u2019s in his autograph pictures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
