Mid-Hudson Valley Psychology Research Conference

Vassar College Psi Chi is proud to host the 5th Annual Mid-Hudson Psychology Research Conference. This conference will showcase recent research by students in Psychology, Cognitive Science and Neuroscience in the Hudson Valley region.

Students can present their research (proposed, in progress, or completed) at a one-hour poster session and/or as a 15-minute oral presentation.

The conference will also feature a keynote address by Dr. Susan Fiske, Professor of Psychology at Princeton University. Dr. Fiske’s research addresses how stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination are encouraged or discouraged by social relationships, such as cooperation, competition, and power. Currently, she investigates emotional prejudices (pity, contempt, envy, and pride) at cultural, interpersonal, and neural levels.

Journal Club: 3/25 5pm BH242

Update (October 4, 2011): This post has been edited to remove a journal article that was protected by copyright. Since this is a past event, I have taken down the article. There is a citation below if you would like to find it. –Carson

This Thursday, come to Psi Chi’s first journal club meeting where Professor Cornelius will lead the discussion! The article up for discussion is entitled “Interacting with women can impair men’s cognitive functioning” (Karremans, Verwijmeren, Pronk, & Reitsma, 2009).

This is a fun and informal way to discuss psychology research with a professor and other interested students. Also, PIZZA will be provided! People who have been invited into Psi Chi, but have not decided whether or not to do so are especially welcomed to come and see what Psi Chi at Vassar is all about.

I hope to see you all there!

Just to recap:

When: This Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 5-6pm

Where: Blodgett Rm. 242

http://www.newpaltz.edu/midhudsonpsyconf/

Important Deadlines:

Submission Deadline: March 31st

Registration Deadline: April 5th (the fee is $5)

Please keep in mind that as a conference for students, there are lots of options on what you can submit. For example, you can submit a proposed research project that you have not actually completed such as one written for a seminar. Alternatively, you can submit work you did for a Research Methods course. You can also submit research you have completed here at Vassar, or are in the progress of completing, with our without analyzed data/results. Basically, you do not have to have a completed study to submit work to the conference – it can be proposed or in progress.

Please check out the website for more information!
