Spring 2020 Workshops Went Virtual in March

The Dean of the College division professional development initiative supports administrators and support staff toward fulfilling Vassar’s mission of providing an inclusive residential liberal arts education. The Senior Associate Dean of the College works with division personnel to foster affirming work-learning environments to enhance capacity and resources for supporting diverse student communities and promoting inclusive leadership and well-being for employees.


The office launched in July 2018.  Dean Edward Pittman ’82 previously supervised offices within the Campus Life and Diversity Office, which is now Student Growth and Engagement. Read more about our 2018-19 professional development initiatives in the News link.

In addition to on-boarding for new employees,  we launched the Building Inclusive Community series of workshops in October—facilitated by administrators in the division. The Early Career Administrators lunch and seminar dialogue series was extended to a full year after a successful Spring 2019 pilot. Additional workshops, including topics such as cultivating your emotional intelligence, disrupting unconscious bias, and inclusive leadership were offered during the fall 2019 semester and 2020 winter break.  The Spring 2020 curriculum included an array of workshops relating to inclusion and equity, self-development, leadership, and communication skills.


Our workshops are designed around small group learning communities that are affirming and inclusive. Sessions typically have 15-20 participants, facilitated by both skilled internal and external professionals.
