We will discuss concepts related to chaos and complexity such as Lyapunov exponents, embedding dimensions, bifurcation diagrams, recurrence plots, and more. There are opportunities for experiments as well as computations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Phys 261.02(1.0 unit) Pop-up Physics (fall only) Prof. Merlo<\/strong><br \/>In this intensive, the students will develop a set of physics demonstrations using pop-up book templates. The idea is that these demos are better at showing, in a tangible way, the physics behind some of the most commonly studied phenomena such as the magnetic field generated by a wire carrying current, among others. The minimum requirements are PHYS111 and PHYS112 or PHYS113 and PHYS114. Some knowledge of origami or pop-up cards is a plus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Phys 262.01\/262.51 (.50 unit) Physics Teaching\/Learning\/Communication (fall or spring) Prof. Schwarz <\/strong>Students will create educational materials (video or other formats) to communicate physics to the general public, physics students at all levels, K-12 students, and all audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Phys 262.02\/262.52 (.50 unit) Attendance and Reflections on an American Association of Physics Teacher meeting (AAPT) Prof. Schwarz<\/u> <\/strong>Only open to students who attended a virtual AAPT meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Academic Year 2023-2024 INTENSIVES: Phys 261.01(1.0 unit) Physical Complex Systems (fall only) Prof. Magnes During this course, students will have an opportunity to study physical complex system(s).
