Be sure to fill as much of the image frame as is possible without cropping out any of the artwork.<\/li>\n<li>Examine the edges and corners of the art through the viewfinder to be sure there is no distortion or keystoning (when one side appears longer than a parallel side).<\/li>\n<li>To minimize key keystoning, use a fixed focal length, standard lens. A standard lens for a full-frame camera = 50mm. Standard lens for a cropped sensor = ~35mm. Example: a 50mm lens on a camera with a 1.5x crop factor, APS-C sensor,\u00a0 gives a field of view equivalent to a 75mm lens on a full-frame camera.\u00a0 A standard lens on camera with a crop factor of 1.5x is 35mm.<\/li>\n<li>Set your camera to its highest resolution setting, and to its lowest ISO\u00a0rating for the highest quality images possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Two-Dimensional Artwork &#8211; Lighting<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/photo-work\/files\/2017\/02\/Acr95992756374528-30026.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-18 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/photo-work\/files\/2017\/02\/Acr95992756374528-30026-300x231.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/photo-work\/files\/2017\/02\/Acr95992756374528-30026-300x231.png 300w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/photo-work\/files\/2017\/02\/Acr95992756374528-30026.png 328w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For best results, place lights at an equal distance from your artwork, at approximately 30\u00ba &#8211; 45\u00ba angles, being sure to avoid glare. Don\u2019t place your art too close to the\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 background, give it some space.\u00a0Note: If your art is small enough and you want even diffused light, use a tabletop soft-box.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/photo-work\/files\/2017\/03\/Acr95992756374528-23147.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-64 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/photo-work\/files\/2017\/03\/Acr95992756374528-23147-230x300.png\" width=\"230\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/photo-work\/files\/2017\/03\/Acr95992756374528-23147-230x300.png 230w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/photo-work\/files\/2017\/03\/Acr95992756374528-23147.png 309w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Setting up the Lights<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"p2\">Set up the stands first, and then add the lighting heads<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">\u00a0Place the umbrellas onto the lighting heads and then face the lights away from the art<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">At first place the lights at 45 degree angles from the art, half way between the art and the camera, this will give even, diffused light.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">Then move around one of the lights to start creating shadows, once you have reached a desired shadow \u00a0leave the light, and start photographing.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">Some pieces of art need three lights to create dimensionality.
