{"id":10755,"date":"2024-08-07T16:22:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-07T20:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/officeofcommunityengagedlearning\/?page_id=10755"},"modified":"2026-08-21T09:13:50","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T13:13:50","slug":"community-service-work-study","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/officeofcommunityengagedlearning\/community-service-work-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Service Work Study (CSWS)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Community Service Work Study<\/strong> program is a federal program that allows students with a federal work-study allowance in their financial aid award to work at a local not-for-profit organization to provide services that benefit the local community. <strong>The Office of Community Engaged Learning (OCEL) Community-Service Work-Study (CSWS) Program<\/strong> supports students who have a passion for community engagement and social justice and qualify for federal work-study. The CSWS Program allows students an opportunity to support community identified projects of the OCEL\u2019s partner organizations. Students are expected to commit to the organization for the full academic year, attend bi-weekly workshops with OCEL Staff, and work 6-8 hours a week at a community partner. Learn more about Community Service Work Study at Vassar <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/offices.vassar.edu\/student-employment\/students\/csws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Student Expectations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Apply to and be selected by one of the OCEL\u2019s partner organizations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commit to the work-study position and CSWS Program for the full academic year (September &#8211; May)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend an OCEL CSWS Orientation on Monday, September 21 from 6pm &#8211; 7:30pm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete a weekly reflection form to share about your experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend and participate in bi-weekly cohort meetings other CSWS Students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Schedule an individual meeting to check-in with OCEL staff mid-semester&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit a final reflection at the end of the semester to the OCEL&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work 6-8 hours per week for your assigned community organization<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This program is open to all first years, sophomores, juniors, and seniors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Academic Year 2026 &#8211; 18:<\/strong> Partners Interview Students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>September 18: <\/strong>Organization Sends Top 2 Students to OCEL and OCEL offers positions to student<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>September 21:<\/strong> Mandatory CSWS Orientation for students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>September 21 &#8211;
