Intern with VC-AREJ (Antiracism, Equity and Justice)

This opportunity is available during the Fall 2022 semester. This position can be conducted remotely.

AREJ is a multiracial group that is run by both campus/community individuals. Each of its members also works closely with and represents the following community organizations: Race Unity Circle (RUC), Black Leaders Action Coalition (BLAC), Northern Dutchess NAACP, End the New Jim Crow Action Network (ENJAN), Poughkeepsie Community Action Collaborative (PCAC), Lead for Poughkeepsie Fellows, On PAR (Partners Against Racism in the Arlington Central School District), Planned Parenthood of Greater NY (PPGNY), and Celebrating the African Spirit (CAS).

AREJ has been bringing together Vassar faculty, staff and students and community leaders to build multiracial solidarity and uplift community solutions to racial violence against POC communities since the beginning of 2020. We came together through organizing and hosting the two Undoing Racism Workshops held at Vassar in February and October of 2019. In addition to building community by curating newsletters, since November of 2019, we host monthly facilitated conversations.


  • Website management
  • Taking notes at meetings and occasionally report back on initiatives
  • Helping with event organization
  • Supporting facilitators with technology, materials and note-taking
  • Making flyers
  • Outreach to campus and communities
  • Occasional research to support initiatives
  • Meet weekly with supervisor
  • Be willing to participate in ongoing antiracist education along with group members

Desired Skills:

  • WordPress, time management, proofreading skills, a willingness to learn

Hours:  The student should be available on Tuesdays twice a month 12-1pm. All other times are very flexible. Students can register for either 0.5 unit or 1.0 unit of credit ( min. 40 hrs with org over the semester for + 30 hrs of academic work OR min. 80 hr over the semester with org + 60 hours of academic work)
