Vassar Education Collaboration – Exploring College Program

This opportunity is available during the Fall 2022 semester. This is an in person opportunity.

Exploring College is a four-year enrichment program designed to support and prepare high school students for college admission and general life after high school. The program encourages collegiate aspirations and aims to improve college readiness among its participants, many of whom will be first-generation students and/or come from low-income backgrounds, and to increase the number of those students who attend college. In keeping with the mission of the Vassar Education Collaboration, Exploring College also aims to create a community of learners which includes both Vassar students and students from Dutchess County public schools–with a focus on Poughkeepsie High School (Vassar’s nearest neighboring school) and Arlington High School. 

Position Description:

  • Develop a curriculum to prepare HS students for life after college as well as activities that make the program feel like a reliable and meaningful community and support system.
  • On top of this work, students are paired with one or two high school students in the group and do work more catered to individual student’s needs.

Desired Skills:

  • An interest in education
  • Willingness to collaborate and communicate openly with me and other members
  • Comfortable talking/learning/thinking about race and Poughkeepsie

Hours: 

  • Monday 3-5, Wednesday 3-5, Friday 3-5 with a preference for students who can make it to both the Monday and Wednesday slot, Fridays are a lot of fun and more optional; Students can register for either 0.5 unit or 1.0 unit of credit ( min. 40 hrs with org over the semester for + 30 hrs of academic work OR min. 80 hr over the semester with org + 60 hours of academic work)
