Desired Skills:

  • Essential: use of google docs, google sheets/excel and google forms ideally google photos
  • Strong foundation in writing for reports
  • Clarity interest in the link between science, research, public policy and social justice attention to detail, especially numbers attention to detail in appearance of presentations, reports strong commitment to this work for this semester
  • Reliable and mature approach strict adherence to policies regarding confidentiality of data teamwork; interested and able to receive guidance and constructive feedback flexibility preferred: experience or coursework in statistics or a research methods course
  • Preferred: interest in graduate school or public policy & education work

Hours: Students can register for either 0.5 unit or 1.0 unit of credit ( min. 40 hrs with org over the semester for + 30 hrs of academic work OR min. 80 hr over the semester with org  + 60 hours of academic work)

Position Description:

  • The social media intern will have the opportunity to research, draft, and post material about DAY ONE Early Learning Community (DOELC). Over the course of the semester, the intern will create 10 posts for each of the following platforms: Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter.
  • These posts will be carefully researched and focused on our target audiences of: Parents, teachers, children, early childhood education centers, local businesses and local government.
  • A key goal will be to create a Hootsuite account, which organizes and schedules the posts.
  • As the intern learns about DOELC and hopefully more about our local community, this person will be responsible for presenting DOELC in a positive and professional manner, reflecting DAY ONE’s core values.

This opportunity is available during Summer 2022 and during the Fall 2022 semester. 

The Art Effect empowers young people to develop their creative voice to shape their futures and bring about positive social change. The Art Effect helps youth explore, experience, and excel in the arts, introducing them to visual arts and media, giving them the opportunity to develop real skills in these fields, and guiding them towards achieving their academic and career goals.

Position Description:

Workforce Program interns support the development, implementation, and assessment of curricula and programming by helping run workshops and after school classes, assisting in curriculum development, assisting classes with attendance records, student files, and digital media management support, and researching youth film festivals and coordinating submissions of student-produced work. Workforce Program interns work closely with one of the following programs:

Media/Art/Design Lab (MADLab)
The MADLab intern helps with student application processing, creation of programmatic materials such as rosters and visual arts education tools, on-site production assistance, arts materials maintenance, and digital file management. Prior experience with mural painting, visual arts, and/or working with teenagers preferred but not required. Availability required is 5-10 hours per week during after-school hours (M-Th, 2:30 – 5:30 pm)

Spark Studios
Spark Studios is The Art Effect’s after-school youth employment program focusing on media and technology. The Spark Studios intern helps with student application processing, creation of programmatic materials such as rosters and visual arts education tools, on-site production assistance, media file management, and file organization/backup. Prior experience with videography, filmmaking, graphic design and/or working with teenagers preferred but not required. Availability required is 5-10 hours per week during after-school hours (M-Th, 2:30 – 5:30 pm)

  • Alignment with The Art Effect’s mission to empower young people to develop their creative voice to shape their futures and bring about positive social change.
  • Enthusiasm for the arts, (visual, film, media), arts education, working with children and youth, community arts, and interest in developing skills in internship area.

Additional Requirements: Interns must undergo an orientation/training session and pass a NYS Sexual Harassment Prevention Training quiz after receiving training.

Hours: Availability required is 5-10 hours per week in shifts of two hours or more, including possible nights and weekend in alignment with Art Institute class schedule. For summer, interns work any time M-F 9am-5pm, and for fall/spring, interns typically work three hour shifts during weekday afternoons or Saturday mornings.

Marketing and Communications Interns assist with all aspects of The Art Effect’s communications channels. Responsibilities include: keeping our website up-to-date, connecting with local and national media outlets, creating and sending our press releases, creating content for social media, and conducting community outreach. Availability required is 5-10 hours per week during traditional business hours (M-F, 10am – 5pm)

Desired Skills:  Students should be curious and hard-working with an adventurous, problem-solving attitude. Lack of experience is not a problem!

Hours: Availability required is at least 4 hours per week.

Social Media and Marketing Intern for the United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region (filled)

Position Description:

  • Photographing events and uploading photos
  • Live tweeting/ instagramming from events, creating content for social media in general
  • Creating/ updating flyers and other marketing tools
  • Updating the website
  • Attending United Way events, and tabling sponsored community events
  • Writing articles, letters, and content on promotional tools
  • Attending meetings and taking notes
  • Prepping for events—printing flyers, gathering marketing tools, putting together other needed materials
  • Helping with other community projects

Desired Skills:

  • An interest in nonprofit work and developing skills for a career in nonprofit management, business and nonprofit development, and/or marketing and communications.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Driver’s License preferred, and access to reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement for work related travel).
  • All interns are asked to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to beginning their internship.
