City of Poughkeepsie Public Arts Commission Meeting (in person)

The City of Poughkeepsie Public Arts Commission’s duty is to expand community awareness and advocate for the role and value of arts and culture in civic life. Taking into account the unique assets of the City of Poughkeepsie along with the successes and achievements of related revitalization efforts in other cities around the country; the commission will work to strengthen the local economy by gaining a greater regional and national recognition, advancing the City as an “arts destination” and engage public art as a major attraction for artists, cultural tourism and economic development. The Commission is to advise the City on issues relating to the arts; including the development, implementation, evaluation, and potential modification of the City’s art and culture policies, legislation, programs and services with an aim of fostering a wide range of arts and cultural offerings that engage a diverse public audience in the City of Poughkeepsie.

O+ BHMK Mural Tour (in person)

Enjoy a tour of some of O Positive’s most fascinating outdoor wall murals. This is a specially guided walk that will provide you with an exciting and interesting experience of unique art in Kingston.

The walk will begin at 10am at the Black Lives Matter Mural located at 695 Broadway at Liberty St. in Kingston, NY 12401, USA and last approximately 75-90 min. Masking and social distancing required.

The Summer Institute for the Liberal Arts – Art and Public Space at Vassar and in Poughkeepsie

July 27 & 28 from 1-5pm on Zoom!
 
The Summer Institute will explore unique partnerships between arts organizations in Poughkeepsie and Vassar. The convening of this two-day, virtual event will include panels and lectures from scholars, practitioners, community, activists, and local art leadership from nonprofit organizations from Vassar, Poughkeepsie, and beyond.
 

Public Arts Commission Informational Working Meeting

Due to unavailability of the City of Poughkeepsie Common Council chamber the regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Public Arts Commission (PPAC) may not take place in-person as scheduled.  This will be replaced with a PPAC Informational Working Webinar with the agenda updated to defer topics for which public comment and voting are necessary.

  • Whale Sculpture in Waryas Park – update from the restoration focus group.
  • Skyscraper (TheBrugesWhale) – update on potential exhibit.

Monthly meetings are scheduled for the THIRD THURSDAY of the month.
