College Hill Park Gardening Day

Assist in getting College Hill Park ready for Frederick Douglass Day 2023, a special day dedicated to honoring and rejuvenating the memory of Frederick Douglass and his famous speech that took place on August 2nd, 1858, in the same park. Sign up here!

This gardening event will occur on Saturday, July 15nd, from 9AM – 12PM at College Hill Park (149 N. Clinton St in Poughkeepsie, NY). We will be meeting at the Lown Memorial Garden, across from the entrance oto the golf course. Transportation to and from Vassar’s Main Building is available for Vassar students.

No gardening experience or knowledge is required! Tools and gloves will be provided but feel free to bring your own if you have them.

Join Celebrating the African Spirit to commemorate Frederick Douglass’s 1858 speech in College Hill Park. This was a major historical event in Poughkeepsie that contributed to the fight for the abolition of slavery!

I Love My Park Day!

Volunteer for I Love My Park Day at College Hill Park (149 North Clinton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY)! I Love My Park Day, held the first Saturday in May, attracts thousands of volunteers from across the state to participate in cleanup, improvement, and beautification events at New York State parks and historic sites. Join us to celebrate New York’s park system by cleaning up park lands and beaches, planting trees and gardens, restoring trail and wildlife habitat, removing invasive species, and working on various site improvement projects.

Help with park clean up, clearing paths, trash pick up, and garden maintenance of the Lown Memorial Rock Garden (a beautiful pollinator garden)! Please bring garden gloves if you have them. Contact Lkopa-guest@vassar.edu with any questions.
