Marketing and Media Intern for The Friends of Bill Duke Committee

About: Bill Duke was born and raised in Poughkeepsie, NY and attended FDR school district. He attended Dutchess Community College and had a taste for the arts in creative writing. Soon after, Mr. Duke spent time at Boston University and NYU Tisch School of Arts. You may recognize Mr. Duke from roles in movies and television such as Predator, Bird on a Wire, American Gigolo, and Black Lightning. Bill Duke started The Duke Media Foundation, whose mission is to seek to train and empower underserved and gifted high school students in the disciplines of new media arts, financial literacy, the science of branding and entrepreneurship in preparation for careers in the new digital media age. By focusing on populations that are underrepresented in the Media and Finance industries, the Duke Media Foundation aims to usher today’s youth into the emerging global economy by preparing them with tools for the rapidly changing new media environment.

This October, The Friends of Bill Duke, will welcome him back to Poughkeepsie for a day of arts, media, history, and culture! Students could help with the planning and execution of this event.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the planning of the event
  • Collaborating with community members to organize the schedule and logistics
  • Assist with the event itself
    • Document the day through photography and video
  • Create informational flyers and posters to share on social media and with the public
  • Community outreach to stakeholders in the community

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with filming and editing software
  • An interest to learn and build community
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to use social media platforms

Hours: flexible, but students are expected to attend the event and meetings; Students can register for either 0.5 unit or 1.0 unit of credit ( min. 40 hrs with org over the semester for + 30 hrs of academic work OR min. 80 hr over the semester with org + 60 hours of academic work)
