SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Cecilia Vicuña at The Loeb
DESCRIPTION:The Loeb welcomes poet and artist Cecilia Vicuña\, who has been honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Venice Biennale and has had solo exhibitions at the Tate Modern\, the Guggenheim\, and others. Her visionary work blurs boundaries between text\, sound\, and art\, while addressing urgent topics like human rights and ecological destruction. Vicuña has lived in exile from her native Chile since the country’s military coup in the early 1970s. Her short film\, ¿Qué es para usted la poesía? / What is Poetry to You?\, is a highlight of the Loeb’s current exhibition\, Chronostasia: Select Acquisitions 2020–2025\, which closes February 1. \nVicuña will introduce her work\, followed by a conversation with curator Alyx Raz and Lisa Paravisini-Gebert\, Professor of Caribbean and Latin American literatures and cultures in the Department of Hispanic Studies. \nAs part of our Late Night at the Loeb series\, the galleries will remain open until 9pm. \nThis event is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:The Undocumented Americans: A Book Discussion with Karla Cornejo Villavicencio
DESCRIPTION:In 2026\, America celebrates its 250th Anniversary! In recognition\, Kingston Library will be holding a series of programs where each month they will examine a different aspect of America’s history\, legacy\, and future potential. This month\, they will explore immigration. \nAs a nation with a history of immigration\, currently grappling with questions of who and how many to accept\, Kingston Library will be using The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio\, to frame the conversation about the current issues and shed light on first-hand experience. \nKarla Cornejo Villavicencio is one of the first undocumented immigrants to graduate from Harvard. She combines sensitive reporting and powerful personal narratives to bring to light remarkable stories of resilience\, madness\, and death. The stories she tells are not deferential or naively inspirational but show the love\, magic\, heartbreak\, insanity\, and vulgarity that infuse the day-to-day lives of her subjects. \nINFO + REGISTRATION
