SUMMARY:Walkway Connections: Oh Freedom! Quilt Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Mid-Hudson Antislavery History Project (MHAHP) and the Oh\, Freedom! Quilting Project present a short slide show of the history of slavery and antislavery in Dutchess County. On display are commemorative history quilts that were created by local quilt circles and invited quilt artists. There is also a simple make and take project available for community participation. \nThe quilts will be on display from 1 – 3:30 p.m. so the public will have the opportunity to learn about the art and the history from those involved with this project. The Walkway Connections presentation begins at 2 p.m. This event takes place at the East Gate Plaza in Poughkeepsie (61 Parker Avenue). It is free to attend and appropriate for all ages. \nThe MHAHP researches\, interprets\, and disseminates this history\, engaging in public history and cultural programming to help citizens appreciate its ongoing impact on social justice issues. The project focuses on the history of slavery\, the Underground Railroad\, and the anti-slavery movement in the mid-Hudson region\, making it a valuable resource for understanding this significant aspect of American history. \nOh\, Freedom! Quilting Project creates community quilts to commemorate and memorialize the people and places in the Hudson Valley who were important in the historic fight for freedom and emancipation. We learn together about the little-known history of the antislavery movement\, the Underground Railroad\, and the role of enslaved people in building the economy and culture of the Hudson Valley.

SUMMARY:Democratizing Work Primer (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Democratizing Work Primer\nTuesday\, June 24\, 2025\n4:00-5:00pm\nOnline \nMost of us come from backgrounds and experiences that have not equipped us to share power. Our mainstream culture is predicated on competition and hierarchy. So\, what does it take to share power and practice democratic decision-making in an intentional\, structured way? How can we build the skills and culture needed for equitable and effective collaboration? \nIn this introductory workshop\, GWI provides a window into the kinds of relational shifts that facilitate a culture of shared leadership. We touch on the tools\, policies and practices that support democratic decision making\, and offer a glimpse into how they can be put into action. You will emerge with a sense of how to start taking steps towards sharing power in your organization or working group. \nMORE INFO + REGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Food Trucks & Co - on Main Street
DESCRIPTION:The City of Poughkeepsie is planning “quality of life” sweeps to start next week in an effort to activate Middle Main Street to further deter the unhoused from congregating in and around vacant lots. The city recently met with the owners of 472 Main Street and successfully encouraged them to make better use of the site this summer. 472 Main Street will become a place for food trucks and other properly permitted vendors\, including those who are no longer permitted to cook out-of-doors. \nOur first kickoff event with food trucks\, city personnel\, council members\, and other community organizations is planned for Wednesday\, June 25\, from 1 to 4 pm at the lot near Kennedy Fried Chicken at 472 Main Street. \nThe June 25th event is open to City of Poughkeepsie residents\, and we encourage all to come and join us!
