SUMMARY:Democratizing Work Primer (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Most of us come from backgrounds and experiences that have not equipped us to share power. Our mainstream culture is predicated on competition and hierarchy. So\, what does it take to share power and practice democratic decision-making in an intentional\, structured way? How can we build the skills and culture needed for equitable and effective collaboration? \nIn this introductory workshop\, GWI provides a window into the kinds of relational shifts that facilitate a culture of shared leadership. We touch on the tools\, policies and practices that support democratic decision making\, and offer a glimpse into how they can be put into action. You will emerge with a sense of how to start taking steps towards sharing power in your organization or working group. \nMore info and register here

SUMMARY:Capacity to Compete (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Over the past year\, Pattern has worked with a team of graduate students from NYU on a special project that examined the inequitable access to state and federal grants for communities of different sizes in the Hudson Valley. Our communities all have similar needs at scale – water and sewer infrastructure\, parks\, downtown upgrades\, economic development support\, and more. But many communities do not have the time and technical know-how to pursue vital grants that are disbursed through increasingly competitive programs. \nPattern and NYU examined this dilemma through dozens of interviews\, and the analysis of local\, state\, and federal programs. Capacity to Compete will offer recommendations to help the Hudson Valley earn more grant funding to keep our communities vibrant\, and our infrastructure in a state of good repair.
