SUMMARY:Clearwater benefit concert in Beacon
DESCRIPTION:In this one-time-only benefit concert at the renowned Towne Crier in Beacon\, NY\, famed banjo players\, Michael J. Miles and Tony Trischka\, will share their music and their stories of personal encounters with Pete Seeger. You can expect some of the best banjo music on planet earth\, along with stories about Pete\, including some of his testimony before the House Un-American Activities Committee. The story of Pete Seeger demonstrates over and over his passion for social justice and planet earth. And Pete’s tool of choice for delivering his message was the banjo. \nThe evening will be opened by Betty and the Baby Boomers\, consisting of Betty Boomer\, Jean McAvoy\, Paul Rubeo\, Steve Stanne\, and Robert Bard\, who came together back in 1987 through their work for Clearwater. \nPurchase Tickets here \nPete Seeger (1919-2014) was a legendary musician and activist. He was Woody Guthrie’s friend\, and he used his music to protest for Civil Rights\, for the environment\, and against the war in Vietnam. For his unflinching efforts\, he was blacklisted and forced to testify before the House UnAmerican Activities Committee. Over his 90+ years\, Pete touched the true heart and soul of America with his songs and his passion for what is right. As an environmental activist\, he founded Hudson River Sloop Clearwater to “build a boat to save the river\,” creating an intergenerational community of Hudson River advocates through education\, sailing\, advocacy\, and music. \nClearwater is deeply grateful to musicians Michael J. Miles\, Tony Trischka\, and Phil Ciganer\, owner of the Towne Crier Cafe\, for collaborating to create this celebration of Clearwater’s founder and benefit concert to support our work to protect the Hudson River.

SUMMARY:Morning Coffee Series with Riverkeeper's Tracy Brown (Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:The Hudson River and its nearby waterways are lifelines connecting us to each other and our local ecosystems. We delight in ice floes cracking in the winter air\, eagles hunting along a river’s shores\, and spending a warm afternoon on a lake’s cooling waters. Most importantly\, these places sustain life. But our essential water sources–and our lives along them–face a host of challenges amid the changing climate. \nRiverkeeper president Tracy Brown has a unique understanding of the tests to come. She will share her perspective in the talk\, “Drought and Deluge: What the Future of Water Looks Like for the Hudson Valley\,” followed by a Q&A. \nBrown became president at Riverkeeper in 2021. A recognized leader in clean water advocacy\, she brings a multidisciplinary approach to her work\, prioritizing data-driven\, community-oriented strategies to protect and restore the Hudson River from source to sea. During her tenure as president\, she has expanded Riverkeeper’s iconic water quality monitoring program\, grown its fleet of boats engaged in patrol and science work on the Hudson river\, spearheaded the passage of key environmental legislation\, and helped lead the formation of the Westchester Coalition for Clean Water–a group of organizations committed to working together to make sure Westchester County’s waterways are clean and healthy. \nOur webinar will run on Thursday\, May 15th\, from 8:30-9:30 AM. PCA’s Matt Stinchcomb moderates. Please register to attend here
