SUMMARY:NYC Open Data Week
DESCRIPTION:About Open Data Week: \nOpen Data Week is an annual festival of community-driven events organized and produced by the NYC Open Data Team at the Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI)\, BetaNYC\, and Data Through Design. \nEvery March\, New Yorkers come together online and across the five boroughs to celebrate public data in New York City and mark the anniversary of the City’s first open data law\, which was signed on March 7\, 2012. Coincidentally\, the first weekend of March is also International Open Data Day. Throughout Open Data Week\, we rally NYC’s civic tech and open data communities and offer opportunities for more people to learn about and engage with municipal public data. \nThe 2025 Festival kicks off at the opening of Data Through Design‘s annual art exhibition. Throughout the week\, participants can engage with NYC Open Data at dozens of virtual and in-person events. DESCRIPTION:In this workshop we will explore creativity from the perspective of using paper and glue. \nStudents will be guided\, encouraged and challenged to rely less on materials and tools\, and more on their own creativity. \nStudents will understand abstract concepts and will be able to apply them creatively to their work. \nIn this workshop they will explore diverse qualities that can help creativity and originality in their own work. DESCRIPTION:Poughkeepsie Children’s Book Festival\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, March 29\, 2025\, 10 am – 3 pm\nDutchess Community College\, Falcon Hall\nFree to attend. No registration required.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet and greet authors and illustrators (covering reading ages from preschool to Young Adult)\, take your picture with your favorite costumed book characters\, and have fun with hands-on activities. Books will be available to purchase\, and to have signed by the authors and illustrators who made them.\n\nFree parking in Lot A (30 Mascot Dr.) or Lot D (95 Cottage Rd.)\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year\, there will be 114 children’s book authors and illustrators for you to meet\, purchase books\, and have them signed. \nSee who will be there here! \nTake some photos with one or more of the library’s costumed book characters! This year we will see Curious George\, Elephant and Piggie\, Esteban (The Day the Crayons Quit)\, Mouse (If You Give a Mouse a Cookie)\, and the library’s own\, Rover! \n \nEach child\, 17 and under\, will receive one FREE BOOK VOUCHER (valued at $15) upon entry into the Book Festival. DESCRIPTION:The PFP is hosting their first Community Harvest of 2025! It’s time to flip the tunnels from winter greens into spring cucumbers\, so there are lots of spinach\, lettuce\, herbs\, and wild greens to pull. The PFP invites the community to come and take as much as you can eat\, share with your neighbors\, stock your local fridges\, and anything left will be donated to our regular food access partners. You will be inside our tunnels so this event is rain or shine. Bring your kiddos\, bring your neighbors\, bring your friends\, and hope to see you there!

Thrift 2 Fight is partnering with Bard Center for Civic Engagement to create their first ever cafe event\, inspired by the Repair Cafe of the Hudson Valley. \nWhat: a full day of hands-on learning\, skill-sharing\, and preparedness for a variety of crises. You can choose from four different workshops\, or join for the entire day. When you RSVP\, we will send you a workshop sign-up form with locations\, details on what to bring (if you choose Cyber Security) and how to dress (if you choose Self-Defense). \nSCHEDULE \n12:30 – 4:00\nCommunity Tabling\, Crafting\, Go Bags & Stay bags\, zine-making\, and more \n1:00 – 2:50\nConflict 101 with local activist and musician Callie Mackenzie \n2:00 – 3:00 Hands-Only CPR and Be Red Cross Ready\nMathew Nedin on “What goes into a go bag? Living at the intersections of art & social justice\, she uses the practice of creating art as medicine\, and works to create liberatory and joyful spaces for growth and healing rooted in love. callie mackenzie holds a Master’s Degree in Human Services. She has an Embodied Social Justice Certificate from Transformative Programs\, Art of Leadership Certificate from Rockwood Leadership Institute. callie is a trained conflict mediator completing courses with Vision Change Win and Project Nia and is a forever student of non-violent communication and conflict mediation. \nChris Ahmed has been working in Bard College IT as a Systems Administrator since 2015 and an Information Security Analyst since 2021.
