{"id":1488,"date":"2016-04-09T12:59:28","date_gmt":"2016-04-09T16:59:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/musicalurbanism\/?p=1488"},"modified":"2016-04-09T13:00:56","modified_gmt":"2016-04-09T17:00:56","slug":"new-publications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/musicalurbanism\/2016\/04\/09\/new-publications\/","title":{"rendered":"new publications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve had a couple of articles published in the past month.<\/p>\n<p>First, and most relevant to my musical urbanism project, an article about the proto-EU visions traced in the career of Simple Minds, &#8220;Sound in 70 Cities: The European Urbanism of Simple Minds,&#8221; has been published in a new edited volume: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waxmann.com\/waxmann-buecher\/?no_cache=1&amp;tx_p2waxmann_pi2[buch]=BUC123637&amp;tx_p2waxmann_pi2[action]=show&amp;tx_p2waxmann_pi2[controller]=Buch&amp;cHash=638e6038e176c4b9c1bfcbbc64fec869\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Unsichtbare Landschaften\/Invisible Landscapes: Popular Music and Spatiality<\/em><\/a>, edited by Giacomo Bott\u00e1 (Waxmann, 2016). This multidisciplinary volume features <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waxmann.com\/?eID=texte&amp;pdf=3039.pdf&amp;typ=inhalt\" target=\"_blank\">articles written in German or English<\/a> (but not both, i.e., no translations) and presents research on a range of musical cities, from London to South Africa, Istanbul to St. Petersburg. I don&#8217;t have a copy of my chapter to share, but read <a href=\"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/musicalurbanism\/2013\/08\/06\/sound-in-70-cities-the-european-urbanism-of-simple-minds\/\">the original essay on this blog<\/a> for a less academic version of my argument. My co-authors K.T. Tobin and Eve Waltermaurer and I challenge the idea that food insecurity among low-income urban households is explained by food values and shopping priorities that are different (and less healthy) than what higher-income groups demonstrate.
