{"id":4791,"date":"2015-04-22T11:24:09","date_gmt":"2015-04-22T15:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/magnes\/?p=4791"},"modified":"2015-04-28T14:08:01","modified_gmt":"2015-04-28T18:08:01","slug":"piano-string-analysis-greg-and-teddy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/magnes\/2015\/04\/22\/piano-string-analysis-greg-and-teddy\/","title":{"rendered":"Piano String Analysis (Greg and Teddy)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The piano string is a much more difficult scenario to model than the plucked guitar string. \u00a0The guitar string is a pluck, which can be easily modeled with an initial string position. \u00a0The piano string has a felt covered hammer that strikes the string, then a standing wave will form. \u00a0Seen in the data below, we were able to construct an initial hammer strike on the string, and analyze how it moved throughout:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/magnes\/files\/2015\/04\/piano-data.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4816\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/magnes\/files\/2015\/04\/piano-data.png\" alt=\"piano data\" width=\"686\" height=\"560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/magnes\/files\/2015\/04\/piano-data.png 686w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/magnes\/files\/2015\/04\/piano-data-300x245.png 300w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/magnes\/files\/2015\/04\/piano-data-624x509.png 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 686px) 100vw, 686px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our force on the bridge diagram yielded a decent fourier transform but we came across one problem, our hammer string was not executed properly. \u00a0In the class text, the force of the hammer on the string, with the spring force behavior from the felt, should yield a soft hit that should appear as a parabolic force vs. time diagram. \u00a0Our data shows that it increases linearly and then proceeds to decrease at an acceptable rate.
