Recombinant DNA Registration Form

Recombinant DNA Registration Form

This form is for typical cloning and gene expression work performed in commonly used vectors and organisms, such as E.coli. Recombinant DNA is defined as either a) DNA constructed in vitro from separate DNA segments that can replicate and/or express a biologically active polynucleotide or polypeptide in vivo, or b) synthetic DNA that has the potential of generating a hazardous product in vivo.

  • General Information

  • E. coli strains derived from K12 are exempt from IBC approval but must still be registered. DH5a, TOP10 are commonly used K12 derivates. Strain BL21 is not exempt. For more strain information, see "What Must be Registered" and "Risk Groups" for more information.
  • Safety Measures

  • Sharps used at RG 2 should be minimized. If sharps are used, review your protocol to minimize use of sharps and use devices with integrated safety features where possible.
  • Your estimation of what category your work falls under. (See "What Must Be Registered"). The IBC or IBC Chair will review the registration and confirm your risk category.
