My joy for Amenia and its wonderful ice cream is quite palpable in the above picture. Raised in southern Connecti<span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\">cut, my experiences with farmer&#8217;s market&#8217;s had always been quite an unremarkable experience. The foodstuffs would be displayed lovingly while those selling their produce would remark with the regulars\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;line-height: 1.714285714\">about such trivialities as weather as cars drove by meters away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-180 aligncenter\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;line-height: 1\" alt=\"Amenia Sep 6 Miranda Kay 3\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/hvamenityeconomy\/files\/2013\/09\/Amenia-Sep-6-Miranda-Kay-3-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/hvamenityeconomy\/files\/2013\/09\/Amenia-Sep-6-Miranda-Kay-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/hvamenityeconomy\/files\/2013\/09\/Amenia-Sep-6-Miranda-Kay-3-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/hvamenityeconomy\/files\/2013\/09\/Amenia-Sep-6-Miranda-Kay-3-624x467.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What I discovered in Amenia during my tri<span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\">p with V<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\">assar Co<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\">llege&#8217;s Field Experiences of Hudson Valley course were very warm indi<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\">viduals offering, what were sometimes, their primary source of income with an incredible attention to detail. A few stands covered a lot right beside the town center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>What an outsider may not<span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0realize right away is that the intentionally dilapidated \u00a0antique storefront facing the multi-purpose store is the very center of Amenia. When one notices \u00a0that the main attraction for the town is quite beyond the, largely residential, center, it becomes ever more clear that Amenia exists very much thanks to it&#8217;s amenity-based economy. Visitors come for the cute store front lined with rusted wares and for the part drive-in-movi<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;line-height: 1.714285714\">e-theatre-part-ice-cream-shoppe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-182 aligncenter\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;line-height: 1\" alt=\"Amenia Sep 6 Miranda Kay\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/hvamenityeconomy\/files\/2013\/09\/Amenia-Sep-6-Miranda-Kay-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/hvamenityeconomy\/files\/2013\/09\/Amenia-Sep-6-Miranda-Kay-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/hvamenityeconomy\/files\/2013\/09\/Amenia-Sep-6-Miranda-Kay-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/hvamenityeconomy\/files\/2013\/09\/Amenia-Sep-6-Miranda-Kay-624x467.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The tow<span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\">n&#8217;s inhabitants exhibit both pride and a subtle level<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0of coy acceptance of their locations.
