Hi, I am an independent textile and costume conservator and I am intrigued by what you are finding in your collection. The sleeve on the bodice of today’s pink and grey bustle ensemble is referred to as a dolman sleeve.
Chances are the pleated pink addition to the skirt is original especially if the color match is accruate. Hard to say more without seeing it in person. What a wonderful project you have begun. Always appreciate when untrained student volunteers show interest in historic costume. Its a way to encourage them to appreciate the conservation field in addition to history. Good luck with the exhibition!

I love the video journal idea, but using a tripod would be helpful.

Hi, ladies,
I love the enthusiasm you all show in the this video — the joy of discovery is evident! Just please hold the camera more steady next time! Is the garment stable enough to put the skirt on a dress form? That might help you to see what is right (and wrong) with the skirt drapery. Also the bodice seems strangely unfitted to me (from what I could see), which made me wonder if this might have been a three-piece ensemble, with this being a visite and the bodice now missing? Just a thought.
