Age does not matter when you&#8217;re trying to make a difference!\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1294\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/haitiproject\/files\/2012\/08\/6891204556_b29c3b3458_b-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/haitiproject\/files\/2012\/08\/6891204556_b29c3b3458_b-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/haitiproject\/files\/2012\/08\/6891204556_b29c3b3458_b.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My name is Solange, and I am 12 years old.\u00a0 I am going into the 7<sup>th<\/sup> grade at Central Vermont Catholic School, in Barre, Vermont.\u00a0\u00a0 My class and I raised money for the Vassar Haiti Project and I wanted to share how we did it with you!<\/p>\n<p>My mom and I had just gotback from the 11<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Vassar Haiti Project Art Auction and Sale held at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie.\u00a0\u00a0 I told my class all I knew about the VHP.\u00a0 My teacher, Mrs. McKinstry, asked my whole class, if they would like to hold a fundraiser for the children of Chermaitre.\u00a0 Everyone in my class was enthusiastic.\u00a0\u00a0 At my school, community service is very important.<\/p>\n<p>My class then discussed what would be a good fundraiser.\u00a0 Somebody suggested a dunk booth.\u00a0 Everybody loved the idea.\u00a0 We researched the dunk booth, and found it was $100 to rent.\u00a0 We first held a bottle drive to raise money for the booth.\u00a0 It was a miserable rainy day, and because it was rainy- we only raised $50 in cans and bottles.\u00a0 Then, we held a dance for the 4<sup>th<\/sup> thru 8<sup>th<\/sup> grade classes.\u00a0 We raised enough to rent the dunk booth.<\/p>\n<p>We decided to get the dunk booth for our school\u2019s Field Day- to be held June 1<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>In the mean time, I made a donation jar, for random donations, which we kept in our class room.\u00a0 We asked people to bring in their spare change.\u00a0\u00a0 In May, we held our annual Spring Concert at school.\u00a0 We set out the donation jar and made a display board describing what VHP was all about.\u00a0 That night, we received a LOT of money through donations.\u00a0 Somebody even donated a $50 dollar bill!\u00a0 We all thought that was pretty cool!<\/p>\n<p>Before we knew it, it was June 1<sup>st<\/sup>.\u00a0 And the dunking booth came.\u00a0 The whole school was pretty excited!\u00a0 The school goes from preschool to grade 8.\u00a0 Everybody was allowed a free throw to try to dunk one of the 4 teachers who volunteered; the principal, and the school cook.\u00a0 Students could buy lots more \u201cthrows\u201d for $1.\u00a0 It was a very fun day!!!<\/p>\n<p>The younger kids had their turn in the morning and the older kids in the afternoon. There was fierce competition to dunk the 4<sup>th<\/sup> grade teacher, and the principal!\u00a0 At the end of the day, my best friend Anna and I counted the money with Mrs. O\u2019Mahoney, our principal.\u00a0 Before the dunking booth, we had raised around $200 dollars.
