{"id":448,"date":"2017-03-28T13:55:30","date_gmt":"2017-03-28T17:55:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/gis\/?p=448"},"modified":"2017-03-31T15:01:32","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T19:01:32","slug":"solar-projects-in-new-york-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/gis\/2017\/03\/28\/solar-projects-in-new-york-state\/","title":{"rendered":"Solar Projects in New York State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly 10,000 solar projects have participated in New York\u2019s open enrollment solar incentive programs over the past 10 years. &nbsp;The data was made publicly available on <a href=\"https:\/\/data.ny.gov\/Energy-Environment\/Solar-Electric-Programs-Reported-by-NYSERDA-Beginn\/3x8r-34rs\">Open NY<\/a>, New York States open data portal. &nbsp;(See Environmental Leader&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.environmentalleader.com\/2014\/08\/new-york-opens-data-on-thousands-of-solar-projects\/\">story about the initial release<\/a> of the data for more information and background.) The data was&nbsp;acquired and organized by&nbsp;Vassar student Toscane Clarey&nbsp;as part of a project for <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.vassar.edu\/content.php?catoid=13&amp;navoid=3382\">GEOG 228 &#8211; Web Mapping: Advanced Approaches to Publishing<\/a>. This project was intended to increase visibility of solar projects in New York State. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"webmap-widget-map\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" marginheight=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/apps\/Embed\/index.html?webmap=8a522d4f26274f2187d37e3a03089631&extent=-80.3759765625%2C40.45166015625%2C-71.34521484375%2C45.41748046875&theme=light&zoom=true&scale=false&disable_scroll=false&basemap_gallery=false&basemap_toggle=false&basemaps=false&description=false&legend=true\"><\/iframe>\n<p>The points in the map illustrate aggregated solar installations by zip code (or &#8220;City&#8221;, as is listed in the pop-up window when clicking an individual point.) The total number of solar projects&nbsp;associated with each point, total nameplate capacity in kilowatt hours (kWh), and the total expected output in megawatt hours (MWh) are also listed in the pop-up window.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Use the zoom buttons (+\/-) and pan around the map and explore&nbsp;local installations.
