You might do this work yourself or you may be sending it out to be done by a professional.\u00a0 In either case, you&#8217;ll be exporting an AAF or an OMF. Both these formats create a new file with trimmed audio and all the metadata from your project so when you import into Pro Tools everything is exactly where it should be.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Exporting an OMF<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Exporting an OMF is very similar to exporting an AAF and it creates a similar file. Some audio engineers may ask for it depending on their software or workflow.<\/p>\n<p>Set an in and out point for the length of your project. Be sure to note start and end timecode.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/film-majors\/files\/2020\/02\/Screen-Shot-2020-02-06-at-10.17.27-AM-e1581007922363.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1113 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/film-majors\/files\/2020\/02\/Screen-Shot-2020-02-06-at-10.17.27-AM-e1581007922363-300x252.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"394\" height=\"331\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/film-majors\/files\/2020\/02\/Screen-Shot-2020-02-06-at-10.17.27-AM-e1581007922363-300x252.png 300w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/film-majors\/files\/2020\/02\/Screen-Shot-2020-02-06-at-10.17.27-AM-e1581007922363.png 633w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 394px) 100vw, 394px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Go to <strong>File &gt; Export &gt; OMF<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/film-majors\/files\/2020\/02\/Screen-Shot-2020-02-06-at-10.28.17-AM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1120 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/film-majors\/files\/2020\/02\/Screen-Shot-2020-02-06-at-10.28.17-AM-235x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/film-majors\/files\/2020\/02\/Screen-Shot-2020-02-06-at-10.28.17-AM-235x300.png 235w, https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/film-majors\/files\/2020\/02\/Screen-Shot-2020-02-06-at-10.28.17-AM.png 518w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 333px) 100vw, 333px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The OMF dialog box will open.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Sample Rate&#8221;<\/strong> and <strong>&#8220;Bits per Sample (Bit Depth)&#8221;<\/strong> should match the project settings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Files&#8221;<\/strong> should be set to &#8220;<strong>Separate Audio. <\/strong>This insures that each clip is exported as its own file.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Format&#8221;<\/strong> is &#8220;<strong>Broadcast Wave&#8221;<\/strong> and we want <strong>&#8220;Trim Audio Files&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Since we are exporting trimmed files, set\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Handle Frames&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0to 60 frames. It&#8217;s a good idea to make a folder in the main project tree called <strong>&#8220;OMF.&#8221;<\/strong> This allows the project to stay organized. You will want to export your video as a 1080p H.264 file. Be sure to uncheck the <strong>&#8220;Export Audio&#8221;<\/strong> box as you don&#8217;t need that track in ProTools.
