{"id":483,"date":"2018-09-25T14:35:16","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T18:35:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/eri\/?page_id=483"},"modified":"2026-03-02T11:56:19","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T16:56:19","slug":"faculty-funding","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/eri\/faculty-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Faculty Funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ERI administers the Class of 1942 Fund for Environmental Sciences which supports faculty research and teaching in environmental sciences, including multidisciplinary work on projects that cross boundaries of environmental sciences, social sciences, policy, humanities, and other multidisciplinary collaborations. \u00a0Applications for all types of funding are accepted on a rolling basis, with preferred submission deadlines below.\u00a0 ERI funding is provided to support:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/eri\/faculty-funding\/#faculty-research\">Faculty research<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1zU9kb0WW2d9XyzCPF__KLIDQ_c7Nb4AGICU_hi0GEmc\/edit\">Faculty travel to meetings and conferences<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/eri\/faculty-funding\/#env-science\">ENST 254, &#8220;Environmental Science in the Field&#8221;<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Departmental Purchases of Environmental Research Instrumentation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For environmental projects or course expenses more specifically in social sciences or humanities, faculty may apply to the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1oK91-yjdP3CqV8qCznMR_NXoyX7ibDcdguy9i8BAxX0\/edit?usp=sharing\">Class of 1942 fund for Environmental Studies<\/a>. Proposals relating to sustainability or climate change also may be submitted to the <span style=\"color: #592bbd\"><a style=\"color: #592bbd\" href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/vassar.edu\/jtw-site\/home\">Jill Troy Werner &#8217;71<\/a><\/span> endowment for teaching and research on climate change and sustainability.<\/p>\n<hr style=\"background-color: black;height: 5px\" \/>\n<h2 id=\"faculty-research\">1. Faculty Research<\/h2>\n<p>The ERI provides financial support for faculty research on Earth\u2019s environmental systems and human interactions with those systems. Ecological, evolutionary, geological, chemical, economic, anthropological or behavioral research projects are funded on a competitive basis. Faculty Travel to Meetings and Conferences<\/h2>\n<p>The ERI has funding available to support faculty travel to environment-themed meetings and conferences, particularly where the faculty member is presenting work. Presentation of environmentally themed presentations at more general conferences is also supported. \u00a0This funding is meant to supplement funds available from other sources.\u00a0 All budgets should include carbon offsets for travel from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.terrapass.com\/\">Terrapass<\/a> or another similar site.\u00a0 Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, please submit by email to the ERI Coordinator.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1zU9kb0WW2d9XyzCPF__KLIDQ_c7Nb4AGICU_hi0GEmc\/\">Link to Faculty Travel Application<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr style=\"background-color: black;height: 5px\" \/>\n<h2 id=\"departmental-equipment\">3. Departmental Purchases of Environmental Equipment<\/h2>\n<p>The ERI has designated funding to support equipment purchases.\u00a0 Requests for this funding must demonstrate that the equipment will be used to support work that is environmental in nature; this equipment should potentially be used by\u00a0 members of more than one department.\u00a0 For Research Instrumentation (used by 1-2 faculty), the ERI will provide up to $6,000 in funding. For Major Research Instrumentation (used by 3+ faculty), the ERI will provide up to $30,000.\u00a0 Funding will be designated on a rolling basis.\u00a0 Send equipment purchase requests via email to the ERI Coordinator (contact info on main ERI website page).<\/p>\n<hr style=\"background-color: black;height: 5px\" \/>\n<h2 id=\"env-science\">4.
