Announcing: COVID-19 Virtual Data Challenge!

This weekend would have been our DataFest 2020 @ Vassar!  Although we will miss this live event with you all, we are pleased to announce the ASA DataFest: COVID-19 Virtual Data Challenge that will take place over a two-week period: May 20 – June 3, 2020.  While this virtual DataFest will still include some key aspects of our usual live DataFests (e.g. working in teams, data-centered fun and exploration, workshops, volunteer consultants, panel of judges, prizes), there are also some important differences (notably,  no dataset provided- you find your own, so no need for secrecy either!)

Read more about this year’s challenge on our COVID-19 Virtual Data Challenge page.  The registration deadline is May 1, 2020.

DataFest 2020 @ Vassar – suspended

We hope everyone is staying safe & healthy in these times of change and uncertainty.
It is with great disappointment that we announce the suspension of this year’s DataFest.  This was a tough decision with much deliberation made at the national level (i.e. DataFests across all institutions are being suspended this year).   As of yet, no alternative arrangements have been made, but we’ll provide updates here as any develop.  And we plan to resume next year (DataFest 2021 @ Vassar!) so please join us then either as a participant or, if you’ll be graduating this year, a volunteer!

Coronavirus and DataFest

As of yet, planning continues for DataFest 2020 @ Vassar.  However we continue to monitor the coronavirus situation, especially on campus, and if need be, may modify DataFest 2020 into more of a virtual experience.   We will keep all registered participants notified with updates.

Workshop sign-ups

We’re introducing a new workshop on GIS this year!  This is in addition to our workshops on R, MATLAB, and Python.  Check the Workshops tab for the schedule.

All registered DataFest participants should have received an e-mail today with links to register for workshops.
