As you prepare for your final papers, projects, and exams, bear in mind <a title=\"Jane Smiley's Seeds and Pebbles\" href=\"http:\/\/99u.com\/workbook\/33445\/jane-smiley-make-room-for-seeds-to-grow\" target=\"_blank\">the wise words<\/a> of Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and Vassar alum Jane Smiley:\u00a0<span style=\"font-style: italic;color: #282828\">I think there are two kinds of sentences in a rough draft: seeds and pebbles. If it\u2019s a pebble, it\u2019s just the next sentence and it sits there. But if it\u2019s a seed it grows into something that becomes an important part of the life of the novel. The problem is, you can\u2019t know ahead of time whether a sentence will be a seed or a pebble, or how important a seed it\u2019s going to be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So don&#8217;t judge your work too harshly, give yourself some time and space for it to show you if it&#8217;s a seed or a pebble.
