She revealed to us the striking imagery of brain structure in Michelangelo&#8217;s <em>The Creation of Adam<\/em>, which is\u00a0found in the Sistine Chapel (see below).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_390\" style=\"width: 579px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a data-postid=\"fsg_post_387\" data-imgid=\"390\" href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/creativearts\/files\/2014\/10\/542f4c.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-390\" class=\"size-full wp-image-390\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/creativearts\/files\/2014\/10\/542f4c.jpg\" alt=\"The Creation of Adam (1508-12). Sistine Chapel.<br \/>Source: Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Not only does this analysis of <em>The Creation of Adam<\/em> provide insight to the advanced knowledge these Renaissance artists, scientists, and thinkers had about the human body, but also raises questions about the religious and philosophical implications of incorporating science into such paintings. What is the relationship between god&#8217;s knowledge and human knowledge? How can one achieve such knowledge? Inspired to do more research, I came across an\u00a0interesting article\u00a0from the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine,\u00a0which compares <em>The Creation of Adam<\/em> to two other paintings from the Italian Renaissance. All three paintings include images that resemble the human brain.
