This week, however, CAAD is sponsoring a workshop with Professor of Jazz &amp; Contemporary Improvisation, Ed Sarath. He will be joining us on Thursday, November 17th at 5pm for an interactive exploration of improvisation. Please fill out the required fields below to register for this workshop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/forms\/E3XZ7L22NQVPhLVB3\">https:\/\/goo.gl\/forms\/E3XZ7L22NQVPhLVB3<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Ed Sarath divides his time between teaching, scholarship, performing, composing, recording, speaking, and spearheading leadership initiatives that aim to bring an expanded vision of creativity and consciousness development to musical study and education at large.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Sarath is professor of music in the Department in Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation, of which he was the founding faculty member and chair (1987-2007), at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre &amp; Dance (SMTD). He is also director of U-M&#8217;s Program in Creativity and Consciousness Studies, an interdisciplinary network of colleagues interested in the inner workings of creativity and its foundations in consciousness. He founded and serves as president of the International Society for Improvised Music (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.isimprov.org\/\"><span class=\"s1\">www.isimprov.org<\/span><\/a>), an organization devoted to promoting awareness of the importance of improvisational studies in musical training and improvised music in today&#8217;s diverse world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Projects in the Collaboratory\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Today is the final day of Elizabeth Snyderman&#8217;s performance piece, &#8220;Fishing: An Interactive Search for Self Love&#8221;. Fishing is a one-woman performance piece taking place in the Collaboratory behind Rocky. Elizabeth will be sitting in the Collaboratory with over 50 index cards containing compliments she wrote myself. She invites the audience to participate by doing the following:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<br \/>\n1. Enter the space.<br \/>\n2. Select an index card.<br \/>\n3. Read the compliment to me. I will respond genuinely.<br \/>\n4. Repeat as many times as you would like.<br \/>\n5. Exit the space, and fill out a google form on the laptop outside.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, there are a few hard and fast rules:<br \/>\n1. Ask permission before touching me.<br \/>\n2. Don&#8217;t say anything mean or hurtful to me. It isn&#8217;t constructive. Be mi<span class=\"text_exposed_show\">ndful of other people who may be engaging with this piece.<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<br \/>\nThrough this project, Elizabeth hopes to exorcise her own-self doubt, explore radical self love, and have genuine moments of connection with friends, acquaintances, and strangers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"text_exposed_show\"><br \/>\nThis project is presented by Unbound Student Theater and Vassar Creative Arts.
