Student team entrants had to include one science major and one arts\/humanities major. Otherwise, any member of the Vassar community could submit images for consideration. Works were each submitted under one of the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>The World Around Us<\/em> &#8211; images in which the subject is visible to the naked eye<\/li>\n<li><em>Visualizing the Unseen<\/em> &#8211; images captured with the use of optics that extend beyond what the eye can see, such as microscopes and telescopes<\/li>\n<li><em>Imagining Science<\/em> &#8211; images that depict objects too small to be visualized directly, models of scientific phenomena or processes, or interpretations of scientific information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 25.2px\">The Creative Arts Across Disciplines Initiative, in conjunction with the Asprey Center for Collaborative Approaches to Science, is proud to announce the winners!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Joseph Weiman &#8217;17 &#8211; The World Around Us &#8211;\u00a0<em>La Paz<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Lital Avni-Singer &#8217;16 &amp; Molly Osborn &#8217;16 &#8211; Visualizing the Unseen &#8211;\u00a0<em>Anaphase Distilled<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Leah Weingast &#8217;17 &amp; Audrey Keefe &#8217;18 &#8211; Imagining Science &#8211;\u00a0<em>Cortical Night: A Golgi Stain of the Mouse Cortex<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to those five students! As the top entry in each category, they will receive $200 ($100 per student if paired) and a large format print of their image. Additionally, their pieces will hang in the Bridge Building from May 4th through graduation.<\/p>\n<p>We also want to acknowledge six Honorable Mention submissions:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;text-align: left\"><strong>Hadley Bergstrom, Associate Professor of Psychology,\u00a0<em>Dendritic Trees in Cortex<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;text-align: left\"><strong>Joseph Weiman &#8217;17,\u00a0<em>Laguna Colorada<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;text-align: left\"><strong>Leah Weingast &#8217;17 &amp; Audrey Keefe &#8217;18,\u00a0<em>A Bird in Flight: Hippocampal Neuroanatomy at Single Cell Resolution<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;text-align: left\"><strong>Lital Avni-Singer &#8217;16, <i>Frozen Bubble<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;text-align: left\"><strong>Meredith Jane Ward &#8217;18 &amp; Sophie Tohl &#8217;18,\u00a0<em>Biased Input and the Pathways Behind the &#8220;Learning Curve&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;text-align: left\"><strong>Mi Rae Shin &#8217;16 &amp; Gloria Park &#8217;18,\u00a0<em>C. elegan<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Their works will hang in\u00a0Olmsted beginning May 6th.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to everyone who submitted images to the competition!
