He also studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York from 1982-84, and participated in the Whitney Museum of American Art\u2019s Independent Study Program from 1984-85. He has received numerous awards, including the ninth annual Larry Aldrich Foundation Award (2001) and the Smithsonian American Art Museum\u2019s Lucida Art Award (2008).\u00a0Presently, Dion lives and works in New York and Pennsylvania with his wife, the artist Dana Sherwood.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m definitely a lover of things, and a true believer that things speak.&#8221; &#8211; Mark Dion, quoted in interview with Mimi Vu<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the Fall, we had the pleasure of briefly hosting Dion on campus. This semester, he is an artist-in-residence at Vassar, co-teaching a course with Anthropology Professor Anne Pike-Tay. His time with us will culminate in &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/fllac.vassar.edu\/exhibitions\/2016\/mark-dion.html\" target=\"_blank\">Universal Collection: A Mark Dion Project<\/a>,&#8221; an exhibition in the Loeb. Until then, Dion continues to create, showing his latest installation &#8220;The Library for the Birds of New York and Other Marvels&#8221; at the Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York.
