I mean, have you ever\u00a0<em>really<\/em> paid attention to them? I don&#8217;t mean the commentary. \u00a0I mean &#8220;the crowds, the kicks, the thwacks, and the grunts,&#8221; as the radio show <a href=\"http:\/\/99percentinvisible.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">99% Invisible<\/a> puts them. The show calls\u00a0it &#8220;the sound of sports.&#8221; One would be inclined to think that not much goes into this sound. The crew that works on televised sports games must just record the ambient noise that kicks and grunts provide and then play them back, right? It may not be quite that simple. In fact, much of these sounds of sports that we hear during televised games are enhanced, not unlike the sounds in films or video games.
