His first book, Rebuilt: How Becoming Part\u00a0Computer Made Me More Human (Houghton Mifflin, 2005) is a memoir of going deaf and\u00a0getting a cochlear implant. It won the PEN\/USA Award for Creative Nonfiction in 2006 and was\u00a0applauded by the L.A. Times as \u201cthe first cyborg memoir.\u201d His second book, World Wide Mind\u00a0(Free Press, 2011) is about the science of brainscanning and the prospect of enabling direct\u00a0communication from one brain to another. He has written for Wired, Technology Review, New\u00a0Scientist, Slate, the Chronicle for Higher Education, and many others. He has a B.A. from\u00a0Brown University and a Ph.D. in digital humanities from the University of Texas at Austin. After\u00a0graduating in 2000 he worked at a dot-com in San Francisco and then at SRI International, a\u00a0research institute in Silicon Valley. He now lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife and their\u00a0two cats. He is working on his third book.<\/p>\n<p>Trevor Pinch is the Goldwin Smith Professor of Science and Technology Studies and\u00a0Professor of Sociology at Cornell University. He holds degrees in physics and sociology.\u00a0He has authored many books and numerous articles on aspects of the sociology of\u00a0science, the sociology of technology, the sociology of economics, and sound studies. His\u00a0books include Analog Days: The Invention and Impact of the Moog Synthesizer and he is\u00a0co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of Sound Studies. He is also a musician playing ancient\u00a0synthesizers with The Electric Golem, The Eric Ross Ensemble, and the Atomic Forces.<\/p>\n<p>On February 25, there will be a public conversation with both Chorost and Pinch in Taylor Hall as a part of the first CAAD Sonic Cyborg residency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Chorost is a book author and public speaker.
