In the fall of 2021, the Engaged Pluralism Initiative (EPI) team dreamed of creating a multimedia storytelling project about community and belonging. We asked folks:
- What does it take for you to belong?
- What does community feel like to you?
- Who in your life orients you toward building community
We knew that the work in answering these questions wasn’t going to be easy. They forced us to grapple with what hurts us, what isolates us, what makes us feel loved.
But we knew the work would be worth it. What we hope we’ve accomplished with the project — through our stories–is a reintroduction to the word “community” in all its complexities. We wanted our accounts of community to fully encompass us. Our hope is that these stories can contribute to tangible changes in the ways we connect here at Vassar.
We hope that you enjoy the exhibit as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it. To fully interact with the stories, please click on the photos of our storytellers.
