His interest in psychology was shaped at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.haverford.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Haverford College<\/a>, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.haverford.edu\/psych\/ddavis\/d2vita.html\">Doug Davis<\/a>\u00a0as his primary research mentor. After graduating from Haverford, he received a 2-year Intramural Research Training Award to work at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NIMH <\/a>with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.feinsteininstitute.org\/faculty\/anil-malhotra-md\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anil Malhotra<\/a>\u00a0on a study of the pharmacogenetics of schizophrenia.<\/p>\n<p>His PhD in clinical psychology is from the <a href=\"http:\/\/avillage.web.virginia.edu\/Psych\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Virginia<\/a>, where he worked on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.psych.wustl.edu\/pal\/pernominationstudy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peer Nomination Project of Personality<\/a>, run by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/avillage.web.virginia.edu\/Psych\/Faculty\/Profile\/Eric-Turkheimer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eric Turkheimer<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/psychweb.wustl.edu\/oltmanns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom Oltmanns<\/a>. That research centered on the differences between self-report and informant-report in the assessment of personality and personality disorders. He wrote his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/wy3euhitv5dsfs5\/Clifton_Networks_and_Perceptions_of_Personality.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dissertation <\/a>on &#8220;Social Network Analysis of Self and Peer Perceptions of Pathological Personality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He completed his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wpic.pitt.edu\/education\/psychintern\/clinical.htm\">clinical internship<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.upmc.com\/locations\/hospitals\/western-psychiatric\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic<\/a>. with clinical emphases on personality disorders, and anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders.
