Today I gave a talk called “L’espace acoustique de l’abbatiale de Saint-Germain-des-Prés” as part of a colloquium held in celebration of 1000 years of history at the abbey. I worked with Brian Katz, an American acoustician who works at the CNRS and his graduate student, Bart Postma, to engage in what Brian has called ‘acoustic archeology’ — to attempt to reconstruct the acoustics of the abbey church in the mid-12th century.
