{"id":338,"date":"2013-01-16T23:58:15","date_gmt":"2013-01-17T04:58:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/accessingvassar\/?p=338"},"modified":"2013-01-16T23:58:15","modified_gmt":"2013-01-17T04:58:15","slug":"how-does-aeo-do-at-accommodating-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/accessingvassar\/2013\/01\/16\/how-does-aeo-do-at-accommodating-students\/","title":{"rendered":"How Does AEO Do at Accommodating Students?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Both students\u2019 and professors\u2019 biggest issue with AEO seems to be that they are under staffed.\u00a0 Several students reported that there can be an issue with AEO getting back to students in a timely fashion.\u00a0 One student provided an example, \u201cIf you need books on tape, you might get them after the test and that won\u2019t be helpful.\u201d Despite some of AEO\u2019s shortcomings, most students registered with the office seem to agree that AEO is very supportive and that their staff are very motivated to help you.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what one professor had to say about AEO:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have seen first hand what a wonderful job MaryJo and Steven do with academic coaching and also how good the office is at providing things like texts, braille texts if needed, extra time on tests, and proctoring arrangements for exams.\u00a0 I think where the difficulty comes is with students who have not gone to the office and have not identified themselves to the office or who don\u2019t know they have a disability and could benefit from accommodations.
