Students with chronic health conditions can be monitored at the Health Service or local specialists during their time at Vassar. The Health Service requests that students with chronic conditions bring their medical records with them so that this information is in their chart and the Health Service can coordinate their care.
Many students with disabilities are on medications. If the prescription is written by someone at the Health Service the medication can be obtained at the Health Service. If the prescription is written by a doctor outside of the Health service it can either be obtained at a local pharmacy or the student can make an appointment with a medical staff member to obtain the medication (if available) at the Health Service.

Student says: In terms of my chronic health condition, I do not see someone there regularly and wouldn’t choose to. Unfortunately, I’ve gone to far more knowledgeable specialists and they were unable to figure out how to help me feel better, so most of the treatment I get at Vassar is for other illness or injury. Part of the nature of having a chronic illness is that sometimes you feel really sick and awful and if I was a healthy person, I would be at Baldwin or even in the hospital during those times, but for me I know enough that doctors aren’t going to be able to do much except have me rest and recuperate, so I don’t usually bother going to see someone in Baldwin for my own symptoms.
