A cluster is a group of inexpensive servers running together in a specific way to act as one large parallel computer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clusters use specific networks and software to spread large, parallel calculations out over many servers and their available resources. To the software, many servers appear as one large set of CPUs or GPUs in one logical computer.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All of Vassar&#8217;s faculty and students are invited to try Hopper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Hopper Cluster currently comprises 5 computational nodes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Five Dell EMC nodes with 64 CPU cores (128 CPUs with threading) and 512 GB RAM per node<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hopper runs Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Linux and typical HPC software such as:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SLURM<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">OpenMPI<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">FreeMPI<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">R<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Python<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gaussian<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Contact <\/span><a href=\"mailto:hopperadmin@vassar.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">hopperadmin@vassar.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for additional software requests<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hopper features the following virtual environments (which are highly recommended for Python and R):&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Miniconda (Full Anaconda packages can be added on request)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Docker<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Python venv<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">HPC Modules<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Researchers can access Hopper by using SSH either directly with a terminal application, or by using CLI\/IDE tools such as Visual Studio Code and using the<a href=\"https:\/\/code.visualstudio.com\/docs\/remote\/ssh\"> SSH server configuration<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>For storage, Hopper has 80TB of space with the below mounted to each user:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\/home<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\/work<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\/scratch<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Contact <\/span><a href=\"mailto:hopperadmin@vassar.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">hopperadmin@vassar.edu<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To request access to Hopper, complete the following permission form.
