SPRING 2016
The mission of the Vassar Cross Country & Track Programs is to provide a meaningful, national caliber, athletics experience that fosters self-discovery and the skills necessary for a successful, purposeful life. Vassar Cross Country & Track encourages a competitive, cooperative, supportive team environment, in which student-athletes take accountability for developing their physical, psychological and emotional abilities through a balanced, committed and thorough approach to training, preparation and competition.
The goal is to see each student-athlete fulfill their highest level of ability athletically, and in doing so develop and grow as human beings.
The vision is for Vassar College Cross Country & Track to be perennial national caliber teams, and to be represented at the highest levels of league, region and national competition season after season.
We'd love to welcome and introduce to you all Coach Erica Maker. Erica spent 5+ years as a distance coach at Williams College, with a Head coaching stint at Trinity College (TX). She has coached many NCAA qualifiers and an NCAA 10K Champ! We are already excited about the adjustments and coaching experience she is bringing to the table here at Vassar! Late April is a tipping point in the track season, a time when things really begin to blossom into fullness. We had an excellent winter training block, which culminated in our inaugural inter-squad relay. The coaches broke the team into three balanced teams (men, women, short sprinters, long sprinters, distance runners etc) and let them determine an order, distance run by each leg, etc - and raced the squads over 5K.
