VAST Activities: Haiti Project

One of the best parts of our Mondays and Wednesdays is teaching Haitian Creole to the scholars in the VAST Haiti Project – an offshoot of the Vassar Haiti Project.

We started off with some basics:

Hello – Bonjou
How are you? – Sak Pase?
I’m great! – Map Boule!
What is your name? – Ki jan ou rele?
My name is – M rele

And then progressed to more vocabulary:

We also killed two birds with one stone and learnt many new words by singing a beautiful Haitian song, complete with our homemade (literally!) musical instruments.

Some scholars even take meticulous notes on Creole and have compiled word lists on the internet. Activity time is always enjoyable as everyone is so interested in learning more about Haiti and Haitian culture!

N a wè pi ta, for now!
