Poughkeepsie Harvest Fest 2023

The Poughkeepsie Farm Project will be celebrating the connection of food, farm and community with their fall fundraiser, Poughkeepsie Harvest Fest 2023! This event will take place from 3 – 7pm in and around the Environmental Cooperative Barn on the Preserve. Bring your family, your appetites, your dancing shoes, and a picnic blanket to this fun autumnal afternoon!

This event (formerly known as Soup-a-Bowl) features a wide range of hyper-local Hudson Valley chefs and restaurants, artists and entertainers every year. Chefs donate their time to create delicious and creative soups with PFP produce. All-you-can-eat soups are shared with guests with hearty bread and sweet treats.

The headliner entertainment this year will be Hudson Valley-based reggae band, The Big Takeover, and singer/songwriter callie mackenzie.

Offstage, hand-crafted ceramic bowls generously created for this event by Fall Kill Creative Works’ Clay Works & many independent artists will be available. We would like to make a special shout out to these artists for their support of this event!

Talk on the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (virtual)

Join Cornell Cooperative Extension and Dr. Chad Wall, Field Veterinarian for NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, to learn about the current outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, the threat it poses to NYS poultry production, and how we can protect our birds and stop the spread. This event is for Small Production Flocks as well as Backyard/Hobby Flocks. Topics covered include symptoms of the disease, keeping your poultry safe, and what will happen if the disease is found in your flock or a flock near you. The update will leave ample time for Q&A. What’s the Buzz: Creating Pollinator Friendly Communities (remote)

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Dutchess County Environment & Energy Team is hosting a program with Dutchess County municipal officials and volunteers (CAC, CSC Task Force, Planning Board, Town Board, ZBA), watershed groups and local residents.

Pollinators are a critical component of our ecosystem, fertilizing the plants in our yards and parks as well as on our farms and orchards. They play an integral part in our local food system and help us grow our local agricultural economy. However, pollinator populations are in sharp decline due to activities such as loss of habitat. Participants will learn about various native pollinator species and the benefits they bring, the activities negatively impacting pollinators, and best management practices for managing our local landscapes with pollinating insects in mind, at both a residential and municipal scale. Participants will hear from two Dutchess County communities about ongoing efforts to establish pollinator gardens and “pathways”, helping to restore habitat connectivity and biodiversity to the region using a collaborative approach.
