Vassar currently employs a part-time consultant to provide GIS support. The GIS Academic Computing Consultant is based in the Earth Science and Geography Department (Ely Hall), and is available for GIS and geospatial mapping assistance to Vassar students and faculty in any department. Professional Email Lists

  • Northeast Arc Users Group discussion list (NEARC-L) – Hosted by the University of Connecticut, Cooperative Extension System, the purpose of the list is to facilitate communication among NEARC members (though you do not have to be a member of NEARC to join the email list). The list is used to post announcements about meetings, seminars and conferences, raising questions about data availability, finding GIS applications, etc.
  • NYS GIS discussion list (GISNY-L) – An open, unmoderated list developed to promote discussion of GIS-related subjects, particularly GIS issues or projects in New York.
  • Society for Conservation GIS (SCGIS) Listserv – SCGIS boasts that there are 1,500 readers of the SCGIS LISTSERV from all over the world. From the website: “SCGIS LIST’ers have demonstrated themselves to be exceedingly wise, good-looking, witty, generous with their knowledge of geospatial data and methods, and passionate about conservation and GIS.” Membership in SCGIS is required to join the email list.
